Background of the Study

Data privacy is a critical concern for businesses operating in a data-driven economy. The ethical use of IT resources plays a crucial role in ensuring that customer information is handled responsibly and in compliance with privacy regulations (Bello & Musa, 2024). IT ethics encompasses principles and practices that govern the use of technology, particularly in protecting sensitive data from misuse, breaches, and unauthorized access.

In Kebbi State, businesses are increasingly relying on IT systems to manage operations and customer data. However, the lack of a strong ethical framework for IT usage has led to cases of data breaches and privacy violations (Ahmed et al., 2023). This study explores the role of IT ethics in data privacy protection and its implications for businesses in Kebbi State.
